The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has awarded the Finance Department a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for 16 consecutive years. The award is presented for their preparation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for each fiscal year. This accomplishment is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.

The Finance Department directs financial operations and internal management activities of Athens-Clarke County Government.

The Finance Department collects, processes, advises, informs, monitors, analyzes, coordinates, and reports financial information and management data to ensure effective and economical use of public resources.
